V-Series Bearings
These partsessentially duplicate theformer Vandervell parts underthe Clevite part numberingsystem. (Same core part no.as standard passenger carparts but with a suffixletter "V").V series rodbearings typically have lowto medium eccentricity and ahardened steel back. All Vseries main sets use a singlepiece thrust bearing ratherthan the former Vandervellassembled type ofconstruction. V series partsare not available withoversize chamfers. extraclearance parts are availablewith a suffix VX (.001" extraclearance), and VXX (.002"extra clearance) for someapplications. V seriesbearings do not have flashplating on the steel back.Narrowed parts are availablewith a VN suffix for someapplications. These are madeto accommodate increasedcrankshaft fillet clearance.
The chief differencebetween the V seriesand otherClevite TriMetal bearings isthe use of a lead-indiumoverlay. Use V seriesbearings if prior experiencehas shown a preference forthe lead-indium type ofoverlay. Lead indium overlayoffers somewhat betterconformability thanleadtin-copper overlay withslightly reduced wearresistance.
