M-Series Bearings
Clevite"Micro" bearings make up theM series. These are specialpurpose bearings having anominal .006" thick babbittlining on a hardened steelback. M series rod bearingshave been slightly narrowedat one end to provide extrafillet clearance without theneed of a large chamfer. Thelower rod shells have a dowelhole for use in aluminiumrods with dowel pins. Mseries mains have enlargedchamfers and, for certainapplications, oil holes andoil grooves have also beenenlarged.
Use M seriesparts to take advantage ofthe high degree ofconformability offered by thebabbitt lining. These partsare intended mainly forengines where severecrankshaft deflections causeedge loading of the bearings.Under these operatingconditions bearing servicelife will be very short.
Frequent inspections arerecommended and bearingsshould be replaced at thefirst signs of distress.
