P-Series Bearings

These are notto be confused with thestandard passenger car andlight truck parts for thesame retention applicationswhich also have a "P" suffixletter. These highperformance parts have uniquecore part numbers differentfrom the standard parts forthe same application. Pseries parts are the oldestseries of Clevite highperformance bearings. The rodbearings in this seriestypically have the greatestamount of eccentricity. Mostrod bearings are availableeither with or without dowelholes for use in aluminiumrods. Most P series main setsare full grooved to maximiseoil flow to the rod bearings.Both rods and mains have highcrush for maximum retention,and a reduced overlaythickness to prevent overlayfatigue, sometimes referredto as hen tracking.

Rodbearings use a hardened steelback for added strength andresistance to fretting. extraclearance rod bearings areavailable for .001"additional clearance andselect fitting. Use the Pseries rods where extremelyhigh RPM's cause severe rodbore close-in. This istypically indicated by nearlyfull parting line to partingline shaft contact withbearings having lesseccentricity. Use P seriesmains where highereccentricity is desired tonarrow bearing contactpatterns and to provideincreased oiling to rodbearings. Rod bearing oilstarvation is typicallyindicated by polishing andsmearing of the bearingsurface, possibly accompaniedby discolourationpredominantly concentrated atthe axial center of thebearings.
