TheBillet Case andbillet pinion support offer anunmatched strength to weightcombination for the mostbrutal Drag Racingapplications. The goal was tomanufacture the finest billetcase- regardless of materialand process costs- and we haveachieved that. The case ismanufactured from 7075-T73aerospace aluminium thatoffers superior strength andis highly resistant to stresscorrosion. After initial roughmachining, it is vibratorystress relieved utilizingsubharmonic vibrationalenergy. This processstabilizes the heavilymachined aluminium beforeproceeding. Afterwards, it issolution heat treated andartificially overaged. Thisensures consistent mechanicalproperties throughout thematerial. The .650" thickmounting flange coupled withthe raised cross rib designprovides a solid structure tomaintain proper alignment ofthe ring and pinion. Uniquewrap around style main capsenhance strength andstiffness. Each cap isretained by four AISI 8740steel bullet end studs whichhave 38% higher yield strengththan typical chrome moly. Thisallows for an increase inclamping loads furtherenhancing cap rigidity. Thetail bearing area has massivewall sections to firmly retainthe oversized tail bearing,which can withstand greaterloads, and is secured by aspecial retainer plate. Alarge oil scavenging channeldirects additional lubricationto the pinion support. Thecase has a provision to accepta load bolt which helpssupport the ring gear duringtire shake. The case willaccept 9" , 9 1/2", and 10"gear sets. Integrated jackscrews facilitate centersection removal from the rearend housing.
TheBillet Pinion Supportis manufactured from 2024-T351aluminium and retained by 12ARP twelve point bolts. Thesupport features a uniquedesign which optimizesstrength, weight reduction,and bearing lubrication. Itplaces both pinion bearingswithin the case and has a muchtighter fit to the case bore.This firmly holds the pinionshaft in proper alignment withthe ring gear, providingmaximum gear life whileavoiding gear bind. The 10"gear sets require a pinionsupport designed specificallyfor those gears. This supporteliminates the need for aspacer between the support andthe case, further contributingto the integrity of theassembly.
